BLOUNTVILLE - Patrick Wilson is considering coming back to Tri-Cities Regional Airport as executive director, according to Airport Authority Chairman James Rector.
“He has indicated a willingness to engage in that discussion,” Rector told Authority commissioners in a memo distributed on Tuesday.
After eight years on the job, Wilson left TCRA earlier this year to take a deputy director’s job at Raleigh-Durham International (RDI) Airport. When Wilson changed jobs, RDI Director Mike Landguth said Wilson’s background provided an understanding of the responsibilities of multiple departments and how they interact and impact others.
“Mr. Wilson’s collaborative management style will be a good fit for our organization,” Landguth said in a prepared release last February.
Florida-based ADK Executive Search, which recruited Wilson for the North Carolina job, was afterward hired by the TCRA Authority to find replacement candidates.Interim TCRA Executive Director David Jones, who had served the airport as director of operations, also indicated he would not be a candidate for the full-time leadership post.
A TCRA Search Committee had scheduled interviews with three executive director candidates for next Monday.
“On (Monday), after consultation with airport counsel (Bill Bovender), we made a decision to postpone those interviews for the present,” Rector told commissioners in the memo. “The reason for the postponement is to give us time to discuss with Patrick Wilson the possibility of him returning as Executive Director...The ADK Search Firm has been notified and any and all persons who would have been interviewed have been notified of the postponement by ADK.
“The Search Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m., on July 8, 2013, to discuss the direction the discussions with Mr. Wilson should take and the direction of the search in general.”
The next TCRA executive director could receive a base annual salary of between $120,000 and $150,000, according to Rector, who represents Bristol, Va.
Wilson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration in Aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is accredited with the American Association of Airport Executives. He started his new position on April 8.
