JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State placed 169 athletes on the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic team announced Monday.
In all, 15 Buccaneers finished the year with perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Among them were former Dobyns-Bennett standout Adam Chase and former Science Hill runner Kayla Kuziola. Both Chase and Kuziola run track at ETSU.
“First and foremost, we are here to encourage scholastic success,” said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Richard Sander. “We take pride in these student-athletes and their accomplishments in the classroom and wish them continued success.”
ETSU tennis player Lyn Yee Choo was among 114 student-athletes in the A-Sun who received their degrees after maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. For her efforts, Choo was the A-Sun’s women’s tennis scholar-athete of the year.
As a conference, more than 64 percent of the student-athletes in the A-Sun posted a 3.0 GPA or better during the 2012-13 competition season, including 73 percent from Stetson as the Hatters claimed their first A-Sun Academic title.
