KINGSPORT — Sullivan County authorities responding to an assault call arrested a Kingsport man Friday for possessing a moonshine still.
Brian S. Smith, 45, Bloomingdale Road, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, public intoxication and possessing a moonshine still as a result of the incident, which occurred on Springwood Lane in Bloomingdale.
According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to a residence on Springwood Lane in response to an alleged assault.
When deputies arrived, a man told authorities that he and his daughters were visiting a friend’s house when Brian Smith, who lived next door, began yelling at them before walking over to their yard and allegedly trying to start a fight.
After learning that authorities had been called to the home, Smith allegedly went to his residence and returned with a garden hoe before continuing to threaten the man and his daughters.
The alleged victims told officers at the scene that at one point Smith exposed himself and attempted to have his dog attack them.
A Sullivan County spokeswoman said officers attempted to speak with Smith, causing him run toward an outbuilding on his property.
Officers apprehended Smith as he attempted to flee, and while taking him into custody they reportedly noticed an active moonshine still inside the building.
The still was seized by the SCSO and entered into evidence, while Smith was transported to the Sullivan County Correctional Facility.
