Keep Kingsport beautiful trash barrel paint-in being held on July 9

KINGSPORT– One of Fun Fest’s kickoff events, the Keep Kingsport Beautiful Trash Barrel Paint-In will be held on the Allandale Mansion lawn Tuesday, July 9. The event is sponsored by BB&T. Pre-Registration is required for this event, along with a $5 registration fee.

Barrel painting begins at 10 a.m. and will continue until noon. Judging will begin around 12:30 p.m. 

Kids of all ages are invited to decorate trash barrels that will be used during Fun Fest, encouraging Fun Fest goers to keep events litter-free. The barrels also are used at other city events throughout the year.

A $5 registration fee is required for each barrel requested on the registration form. Registration deadline is on or before July 5th at the Fun Fest store. Make checks payable to Fun Fest. Same day registrations will be accepted based on barrel availability.

Participants should bring all painting supplies!! This includes spray paint, water-based paint, brushes, stencils, etc. Wal-Mart on Fort Henry Drive will provide one can of spray paint per barrel while supplies last.

Awards are given out by age group to the winners of the trash barrels that best represent a fun or green theme. Age groups include: Under 6; 6 - 8 years old; 9 - 11 years old; 12 -17 years old; 18 and over; Special Friends; and new this year, Kingsport Mets category. The participant with the best overall barrel will receive the Terry Light Memorial Award. Mets category barrels may be used at Hunter Wright Stadium this season.

Paid registration is required for this event. Registration forms are available at the Fun Fest store, and at Attendees are encouraged to bring drinks and lunch.
