PIGEON FORGE — The Kingsport-based East Tennessee Select came home with some hardware from the 8-year-old USSSA Tennessee state baseball championship over the weekend, winning three games on Sunday to claim the title.

The East Tennessee Select beat the Knoxville Fire 11-3 in the quarterfinals, the 2012 champion Knoxville Stars 7-4 in the semifinals, and the nationally ranked East Tennessee Cardinals 14-6 in the championship. The Cardinals also hail from the Tri-Cities.

The Select posted a 32-16 record over the season, competing in 13 tournaments and winning championships in six of them — including the prestigious Super NIT — and were runners-up four times. The team is composed of eight players from Kingsport and one each from Jonesborough, Gate City and Richlands, Va.
