Castlewood boys basketball coach Doug Campbell, shown discussing a call with a ref in this year's Region D tournament finals, will be taking over the girls basketball program at George Wythe next fall.

CASTLEWOOD — Doug Campbell, who led the Castlewood boys basketball team to two consecutive appearances in the VHSL Group A, Division 1 state tournament,  will be coaching the girls program at George Wythe for the 2013-14 school year.

Campbell, a J.I. Burton player alumnus who led the Raiders to the state tournament as a point guard under coach Stan Wilson and later served as an assistant coach under the longtime Norton basketball guru, took over the Blue Devils program in 2010.

Campbell's successor has yet to be named.

Longtime Castlewood principal  Butch Kiser, a former football coach, retired this spring. No coaching positions at the school will be appointed until his vacated post is filled.

Interviews for principal at the sports-minded Russell County school begin Thursday.
