Suspect in Mountain City double shooting placed on most wanted list

MOUNTAIN CITY — A man who is suspected of shooting two people outside a residence early Monday morning has been placed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Top Ten Most Wanted List. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Richard Shane Mabe, 33, last known address 711 McElyea Road is wanted by the TBI and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office on two counts of attempted second degree murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and violation of probation.

The sheriff's department and the TBI have been searching for Mabe since deputies responded to a 2:10 a.m. Monday  shooting at  2636 Divide Road. The officers found Jackie Harless, 40, and Michael Laird, 40, both of Mountain City had been shot with a 9 mm. pistol. Both men were transported to the Johnson City Medical Center, where they were later reported in stable condition.
