Accused cattle rustler indicted in theft of pickup

ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County man who was arrested with an accomplice last month accused of rustling 10 cows and a bull has been named in a sealed Hawkins County grand jury indictment accusing him of stealing a truck.

Dennis Lee Murrell, 29, 149 Terrace View, Rogersville,  has been in the Hawkins County Jail since his May 18 arrest for one count of theft over $10,000 for the alleged theft of the cows and bull.

On Tuesday he was served with a sealed indictment warrant on a new count of theft over $10,000 pertaining to the theft of a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cam pickup from an Arrington Road residence on Feb. 13.

The owner told the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office that the truck had a for sale sign on it, and someone took the truck for a test drive on Feb. 13 and didn’t return it.

That truck, valued at $10,000, was located behind a barn on Stanley Valley Road on Feb. 16.

Murrell remains held on $50,000 bond, but is scheduled to appear in Hawkins County Criminal Court Friday on the new sealed indictment theft over $10,000 charge.

In an unrelated case, Murrell was charged May 18 with theft over $10,000 after nine of the 11 cattle he and an accomplice allegedly stole from a Prices Grove Road pasture in Bulls Gap escaped from a small corral where they were being kept in Hamblen County.

When Hamblen County deputies responded to a complaint of the cattle running at large, they questioned Murrell’s alleged accomplice, Dustin Anthony Holloway, 27, 2899 Coffey Road, Morristown, who eventually confessed and implicated Murrell.

Murrell’s cattle rustling charge has been bound over the grand jury, but the grand jury has yet to hear the case.

Two other sealed indictments and warrants from Monday’s Hawkins County grand jury session were served this week including:

•Anthony Evan Spears, 23, 323 Oak Trail, Rogersville, for two counts of delivery of a controlled substance analogue (alpha-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone).

•Sharon Kay Keith, 53, 217 Stanley Valley Road, Rogersville, for two counts of delivery of a controlled substance analogue (alpha-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone).
