ERWIN, Tenn. (AP) — A cat named Marshmallow is making online friends and many are donating to pay his vet bills.

According to the Johnson City Press ( ), the Unicoi County Animal Shelter posted a photo of Marshmallow, who was burned in a home fire on Tuesday.

The shelter's Facebook post asked for donations to help pay for treatment of 2nd-degree burns on the male cat's face and part of its body.

Animal Shelter Director Jessica Blevins said Marshmallow is still on oxygen because he inhaled smoke. By Tuesday night, $155 had been donated. Marshmallow's treatment is likely to cost about $500.

Donations can be made online, over the phone or by dropping by cash at the shelter in Erwin.
