Shannon Dale Herron
ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County man who was arrested in November for cooking meth, while at the same time being wanted by police for making sexual text messages to a 14-year-old girl, was sentenced Monday to eight years.
Shannon Dale “Shane” Herron, 31, 203 Big Hill Road, Mooresburg, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge John Dugger to initiating the process to manufacture meth, solicitation of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He will be eligible for parole after serving 30 percent of the eight year sentence, and he was also fined a total of $2,325.
Herron was arrested Nov. 12, 2012 with an active "one pot" meth lab in his pickup after the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a suspicious female complaint on Substation Road in Mooresburg.
HCSO Deputy Reba Matthews reportedly found a female driving the truck, and Herron in the passenger seat. There was also another male standing outside the truck.
Matthews observed syringes and other drug paraphernalia lying in plain view in the truck, so she called for backup and obtained permission to search the truck from the female.
Deputies allegedly found a backpack in the bed of the pickup that contained a one-pot meth lab that was in the midst of a cook, as well as various meth lab components.
Herron admitted the meth lab was his and said the other two didn’t know it was there, and his companions weren’t charged.
At the time Herron had been wanted by the HCSO for solicitation of a minor dating back to Nov. 23, 2011 when the mother of the victim told the HCSO that her 14-year-old daughter had received text messages on her cell phone of a sexual nature from Herron, who also sent the girl photos of himself.
Herron admitted that the phone number that the illicit text messages had been sent from were was his.
According to the HCSO, some of the messages on the girl’s cell phone were about sexual acts Herron wanted to perform on her, and how he couldn’t wait to do them. The HCSO stated that he knowingly engaged sexual conversations with the girl who he knew was underage.
