GREENEVILLE — "Allen Johnson and the J&J Race Team Day" will be observed this week in Greeneville, and the public is invited to come out and greet the local NHRA star.
Johnson won last season's NHRA Pro Stock world championship. During Saturday's celebration at the City Garage Car Museum, the Greeneville native will be retiring his Mopar Dodge to the museum for display and signing autographs for those in attendance.
“We encourage everyone to come by the museum and congratulate Allen and his team for their accomplishments,” Kent Bewley, owner of the museum, said in a statement. “We’re very proud to provide residents of the region the opportunity to shake the hand of a world champion!”
City and county officials will declare "Allen Johnson and the J&J Race Team Day" at Tuesday's Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.
Originally scheduled for May 11, the local observance and celebration had to be postponed when the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals in Atlanta on May 4 were rescheduled for the following weekend because of rain.
“Greeneville and Greene County have been blessed with some very talented individuals that have brought tremendous positive recognition to our community, not the least of which is Allen Johnson and his race team,” said Tom Ferguson, president/CEO of the Greene County Partnership. “This special recognition for them is well overdue and the Partnership looks forward to being a part of this event for Allen and his dad, Roy, as well as his race team members.”
