JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State runner Adam Chase was named the Atlantic Sun Conference men’s track and field scholar-athlete of the year for 2013.

The Kingsport native led the conference’s all-academic team with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a sophomore. Chase, a Dobyns-Bennett High School product, is a math major.

Chase also was selected to the Capital One Men’s Academic All-District III First Team, which is chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This award puts him in the mix for the Capital One Academic All-American Team, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Chase won the 3,000-meter steeplechase title at the A-Sun championships with a personal-best time of 9:09.85. He currently ranks among the top 70 in the NCAA East Region in the event.
