BIG STONE GAP — The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park in Big Stone Gap will launch its annual Kids Summer Series, “Decades of History,” on June 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The first program in the series will explore the history of Southwest Virginia in the 1860s, concentrating on the Civil War era in the region. The park will also offer a selection of similar summer programs for kids every Wednesday in June and July to enable children to learn the history of a specific decade in the region with special guests and activities.
Children who enroll in the entire series will attend a graduation ceremony and receive a participation certificate. The cost is $5 per child per program.
Children should be enrolled by 4 p.m. on June 3. Participants need to bring a bag lunch. To enroll in the series or an individual program in the series, call the museum at (276) 523-1322.
