Knoxville woman put out of home by nuisance charge

May 29th, 2013 10:30 am by Associated Press

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Knox County prosecutor has used the state public nuisance statute to put a woman out of her home after repeated calls to police about drug dealing.

The statute is usually used to shut down businesses that have become nuisances in neighborhoods because of criminal activity.

District Attorney General Randy Nichols' office said the Knoxville Police Repeat Offender Squad had told Jeannie Grubb in April of last year police would file a nuisance petition against her if drug activity at her home didn't stop.

A temporary court order bars Grubb from her home until a hearing on Monday. The petition alleges drug activity endangers people who live in the quiet neighborhood.
