KNOXVILLE — When Ellen Renfroe wavered, Ivy Renfroe entered, shutting down the defending national champions and leading Tennessee to the brink of the Women’s College World Series.
The Lady Vols (48-10), the No. 7 national seed, beat No. 10 seed Alabama 3-2 on Friday night in front of a raucous sold-out crowd of 1,650 in an NCAA Super Regional at Lee Stadium.
Ellen Renfroe was pulled in the fourth inning after struggling with her control. Her sister, Ivy, gave up a line-drive double on her first pitch but then retired 11 of the next 13 batters.
