KINGSPORT — Wellmont Health System has opened a new satellite physical therapy unit at the new YMCA Wellmont Center.

Trained caregivers from Sullivan Center Outpatient Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy will treat patients at the unit, which is near the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center.

“This new clinic provides an excellent opportunity for Wellmont to serve our patients in the Kingsport area with additional convenience from the same excellent staff patients have trusted with their physical therapy needs,” Denny DeNarvaez, Wellmont’s president and CEO, said in a prepared release. “We’re excited to incorporate our service in this new facility, which shares our commitment to promote wellness in the region.”

The Sullivan Center, which has delivered care at the Holston Valley Outpatient Center, will continue serving patients throughout the region at its Stone Drive location.

The physical therapy unit is part of Wellmont’s and the Kingsport Family YMCA’s mutual goal to encourage residents to adopt healthy living habits.

The physical therapy unit, which has about 775 square feet, is located adjacent to the weight and cross-training equipment on the second floor of the YMCA Wellmont Center. Licensed physical therapists will provide orthopedic therapy, postoperative rehabilitation and sports medicine services.

Patients do not have to be members of the YMCA to access care at Wellmont Physical Therapy at the YMCA, according to Wellmont.

The unit is also expected to periodically host public health screenings and education sessions.

“Some of our patients may work or live near our new facility, and we are pleased to give them the opportunity to serve their therapy needs with less travel time,” said Greg Cross, the Sullivan Center’s director of Outpatient Physical Therapy. “We have been proud to be the go-to clinic for physical therapy patients in our region, and this new location will just extend the healing experience to a new part of the c o m m u n i t y. ”
