D-B soccer coach Chris Woods resigns

KINGSPORT - Dobyns-Bennett soccer coach Chris Woods announced his resignation Monday morning. Woods, who has been at the helm of the girls and boys soccer programs at D-B for the past four years, cited illness in his family as his reason for resigning.

"The expectations and commitment I ask of my players are the same for me," said Woods. "Under the current circumstances, my total focus will have to be with my family. It just wouldn't be fair to my players not to be able to give them my full attention."

The Tribe (19-4-1) completed its season last Saturday, losing 2-0 at Farragut in the TSSAA Class AAA Sectionals.

"We had a great season," said Woods, who formerly coached at Oak Ridge. "Certainly, it didn't end the way we would have liked. But this group has been amazing. They fully committed to the concept of playing with grace, truth and love.

"My goal is always to leave a program better than when I took over," added Woods. "I truly believe we've done that. D-B soccer is in a good place."

Woods hopes to be able to continue to teach at Dobyns-Bennett.

"That's what I plan, but circumstances will determine how all that works out," he said.
