KNOXVILLE — Madison Shipman had a two-run homer and drove in three, Ivy Renfroe fanned five over seven shutout innings and Tennessee clinched its sixth trip to the NCAA Super Regionals.
The Lady Vols (47-10) defeated North Carolina State 7-0 on Sunday in the Knoxville Regional and advanced to face Southeastern Conference rival Alabama next weekend, also at Lee Stadium.
The Wolfpack (35-20-1) were making their first NCAA appearance since 2007.
Renfroe pitched UT to its third shutout of the regional. She allowed just one hit, a single up the middle to Lana Van Dyken in the third inning.
Shipman finished 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs.
Raven Chavanne went 2-for-3 and scored twice, moving her career runs total to 242 — a new Tennessee record. Chavanne broke the previous record of 241 held by Lindsay Schutlzer.
