JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State begins play in the Atlantic Sun Conference baseball tournament Wednesday morning in DeLand, Fla.
The fourth-seeded Buccaneers (32-22, 17-10) meet host Stetson, the fifth seed, at 10 a.m. at Melching Field.
Top-seeded Mercer (42-14, 20-7) and eighth-seeded USC-Upstate (26-28, 9-18) follow at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday's two losers meet Thursday at 10 a.m. while the two winners play at 5 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 seed Florida Gulf Coast (37-19, 19-8) and No. 7 Kennesaw State (26-28, 13-14) face off Wednesday at 5 p.m., and third-seeded North Florida (38-17, 18-9) plays No. 6 seed Lipscomb (24-32, 13-14) at 8:15.
The double-elimination tournament runs through Sunday. If both teams advancing to the championship are undefeated, then one title game is set for Sunday at 1 p.m., on ESPN3. Should a one-loss team advance and win, an “if necessary” game would be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first matchup.
