Are you ready for the water? National Safe Boating Week coming up

JOHNSON CITY — In conjunction with National Safe Boating Week, a free vessel check and safe boating information will be offered Saturday during the Shadrack Watersports’ On-The-Water Boat Show at the Winged Deer Park boat ramp.

The free vessel check for Tri-Cities residents will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Johnson City Sail & Power Squadron also will have a tent at Winged Deer Park from Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and offer information about upcoming safe boating classes.

The Tennessee Safe Boating Course will be offered Tuesday, May 21 and Thursday, May 23 at the Northeast State Library. Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1989 must have a Tennessee safe boating certificate.

The Emergencies on the Water Seminar will be held Wednesday, May 22 at the Northeast State Library. This seminar will cover special considerations for medical, fire, taking on water, man overboard and other emergency situations that can occur on a boat.
