Tennessee basketball coach Cuonzo Martin works with youth during one of the Volunteer S.H.O.T. (Statewide Hoops Outreach Tour) Clinics.
Tennessee basketball coach Cuonzo Martin on Monday announced the four cities for this summer’s Volunteer S.H.O.T. Clinics (Statewide Hoops Outreach Tour). The 2013 tour stops include Cleveland, Kingsport, Jackson and Murfreesboro.
This marks the second year for the unique series of one-day, statewide youth basketball camps. Last summer, the Vols visited Chattanooga, Greeneville, Memphis and Nashville.
“Kids start to associate with that ‘Power T’ at a very young age,” Martin said. “I think it’s important to reach out to the children of this state and nurture their relationship with UT.
“The response to these clinics last summer was overwhelming. They’re a great way to reach out and build on the statewide loyalty for the Tennessee brand.”
On Friday, June 14, a clinic will be held at Sullivan North High School in Kingsport
The Volunteer S.H.O.T. Clinics tip off Tuesday, June 11, at Cleveland High School in Cleveland, followed by the Kingsport clinic on Friday, June 14. The Jackson clinic will be held Wednesday, June 26, at Trinity Christian Academy. Martin will bring the Volunteer brand to Murfreesboro on Thursday, June 27, at Blackman High School.
Clinics at all four sites will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., local time. Participation will be limited to the first 75 registrants at each location.
Martin and his basketball staff personally conduct each clinic, along with assistance from current and former UT players as well as local coaches. Each clinic consists of a welcome speech by Martin, station drill work, a speech on life skills and character building, a Q&A session with UT coaches and players as well as a photo and autograph session.
The clinics are open to all boys entering kindergarten through sixth grade (in the fall of 2013). Families can pre-register their campers at http://www.TennesseeSportCamps.com. The cost is $20 per child and includes participation, a basketball and a T-shirt.
