NE Tenn. man allegedly abuses, hospitalizes infant daughter

ELIZABETHTON — A father has been arrested after an indictment from a Carter County grand jury on charges that he injured his 1-month-old daughter so severely that she had to be transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

Mathew Clemons, 29, 106 Cable Hollow Road, Butler, was arrested Tuesday by the Elizabethton Police Department on a charge of aggravated child abuse/neglect.

Sgt. Chris Bowers of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Elizabethton Police Department said police officers and officers from the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services responded to Niswonger Children’s Hospital on March 14 to being an investigation on a seriously injured 5-week-old girl.
