NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Nashville high school is starting its own music label.

The Tennessean reports Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School unveiled a new $1.2 million recording studio on Wednesday. The label will be available for students across Metro Nashville to record songs.

Students will operate the label just like the corporate model, with profits going toward music education.

John Esposito, president and CEO of Warner Music Nashville, said Pearl-Cohn is the first school in the nation to house a student-run label affiliated with a major record label.

Mayor Karl Dean said the studio takes Nashville one step closer to accomplishing his goal of having a world-class music education program.

The studio was financed with school district funds, a federal grant and donations from music industry professionals.
