NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has confirmed a new state record for the spotted gar taken by method other than rod and reel (Class B).
Jim Ulerick, of Kokomo, Ind., took the fish by archery April 14 on Reelfoot Lake in Tiptonville, located in the northwest part of Tennessee. The fish weighed 12 pounds and was 39½ inches in length.
The new record fish surpasses the previous mark of 10 pounds, 8 ounces, which also was set on Reelfoot Lake in April 2009.
The criteria to be considered for a state record fish along with the new record application and instructions, state records and fishing license information are in the 2013 TWRA Tennessee Fishing Guide.
