ROGERSVILLE — Hawkins County deputies are investigating a possible attempted arson of a rural barn where two makeshift Molotov cocktails were found, one of which was apparently thrown against the side of the barn but didn’t break.
HCSO Deputy Mark Harrell responded Thursday morning to a complaint of attempted arson at the residence of Jessica Oxborough on Route 66-N north of Rogersville.
Oxborough stated that Thursday morning when she went to the barn she found two jars filled with a liquid.
One of the jars was about a foot from her barn, and one was about 30 feet from her barn in a field.
“Both jars were filled with some type of petroleum liquid, and there was a rag in each of them apparently to be used as a wick,” Harrell said. “The jar found in the field had been set on fire at some point but went out. There were stains on the barn where someone had thrown the jar against it.”
Oxborough indicated that the incident must have taken place sometime overnight Wednesday or early Thursday.
Photos were taken of the scene and the jars were taken into evidence.
The information was going to be forwarded to the HCSO Detectives Division, Harrell said.
Anyone with information about this possible attempted arson or people in the area making Molotov cocktails is asked to contact the HCSO at 272-4848.
