George L. Carter focus of next Survivors’ Club meeting

ndustrialist George L. Carter will be the focus of the next Kingsport Survivors' Club meeting on May 6.

Ned Irwin, a noted historian of this region, will present “The Last Empire Builder,” the story of George L.  Carter and his amazing development of industry, during the next Kingsport Survivors’ Club meeting.

The Kingsport Survivors’ Club, which presents monthly programs on regional history, will meet at 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 6, in the Eastman Board Room at the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce, 400 Clinchfield St.

Irwin, a native of Jonesborough, and graduate of East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee, is the recipient of the East Tennessee Historical Society’s prestigious McClung Award. He co-wrote, with Ray Stahl, “The Last Empire Builder,” copies of which will be available for $15 at the meeting.

Annual members fee for the Kingsport Survivors’ Club is $10. The club is open to anyone, regardless of age.
