KINGSPORT — After two quiet weeks, Kingsport Speedway roars back to life Friday with Whelen Night at the Races.
Five divisions are in action: Late Model Stock (60 laps), Street Stock (30 laps), Pure 4 (25 laps), Rookie Pure 4 (15 laps) and Legends (15 laps).
Last week was a scheduled off night of racing at Kingsport Speedway. The previous week, rain washed out the action.
The most recent winners at the .375-mile banked concrete racetrack were Johnson City's Zeke Shell (Late Model Stock), Surgoinsville's John Harrell (Street Stock), Kingsport's John Ketron (Pure 4), Johnson City's Brandon Sutherland (Rookie Pure 4) and Kingsport's Derek Lane, who earned his first career Legends victory.
Chad Finchum of Knoxville is the Late Model division leader entering this week's feature, Bristol's Nick Cole leads in Street Stock points, and Ketron (Pure 4) and Kingsport's Billy Byington (Rookie Pure 4) are tops in their respective divisions.
The pit gate opens at noon Friday, with the grandstands and tier-parking gates opening at 5:45 p.m. Practice is scheduled to begin at 6, followed by qualifying at 7. The green flag falls for the first feature at 8:05.
Kingsport Speedway is located at 2961 North John B. Dennis Highway. Visit the track website for more information.
