Thunderbird enthusiast group brings annual "Mockingbird Run" to Johnson City

Approximately 60 early model Thunderbirds will visit the region May 4-6 for the Northeast Tennessee Rebel Classic Thunderbird Club's Mockingbird Run.

JOHNSON CITY — The Northeast Tennessee Rebel Classic Thunderbird Club will host the Mockingbird Run in Johnson City May 4-6. Approximately 60 early model Thunderbirds and 120 visitors are expected to visit the region for the weekend events.

“This event allows Thunderbird enthusiasts to enjoy fellowship, preservation and enjoyment of showing and driving these classic cars,” says Ed Fennell, event chair. “We have attendees coming from nine different states, and we have calculated that these folks will drive a combined total of 11,685 miles in May to visit Johnson City.”

“We have three days of activities for attendees that will showcase Johnson City and the surrounding area,” Fennel says. “In addition to staying at the Carnegie Hotel, we will be visiting the Borla facility, Gray Fossil Site and Bristol Motor Speedway. We will also be participating in Elizabethton’s weekly Cruise-In and dining at local restaurants throughout the weekend.”

“We are always happy to assist local groups that bring their larger state and regional organizations to our community for events,” said Sarah Rowan, sales director for the Johnson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We are eager to share the many wonderful things our community has to offer visitors, and the economic impact of group events positively affects our local economy.”
