JONESBOROUGH — Seven months after being damaged by flooding, registration began for Buffalo Mountain Camp and Retreat Center’s Summer Camp Program. The seven-week program will provide day camp, half week and full week modified camping sessions for children and youth from kindergarten to 12th grade.
“We are excited to hold our first summer camp since our property sustained damage from the flood,” says Jason Onks, camp director. “We have worked very hard cleaning up and after completing extensive property and facility assessment, the staff and board of directors have determined the property is safe.”
This modified summer camp program will provide campers with the opportunity to experience the usual camping and outdoor activities like swimming, zipline, climbing tower, archery, and hiking but there will not be as many camper slots available. Due to the flood in August, the camp will not be able to use all its cabins.
“While available slots for campers will be lower, the quality in the type of experience campers have will not be compromised,” says Onks. “We remain a place where memories are made for a lifetime.” However, parents will need to register soon to ensure a space is available for their child.

Buffalo Mountain Camp is located 15 minutes from downtown Johnson City off of Dry Creek Road. For more than 60 years, camp has provided summer camp programs and retreat services for men, women and children of all ages.
