Police: Kingsport woman attempts to sell neighbor's property in yard sale

Megan Knapp, 24, of 1223 Bell Ridge Drive, Kingsport, Tenn.

A Kingsport woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing furniture and appliances from a vacant, neighboring home, then attempting to sell them in a yard sale outside her residence.

Megan Knapp, 24, of 1223 Bell Ridge Drive, was arrested Saturday and charged with burglary and theft of more than $500. The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office reports a well-worn path was found leading from the victim's residence to that of Knapp — directly next door — where she was trying to sell a stolen freezer chest, tables, entertainment center, dresser and desk.

The rightful owner of the property called police on Saturday afternoon. SCSO Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart says the man's parents used to live in a mobile home next door to Knapp, but have since passed away.

The man told police he had received a call advising him that someone was removing property from the home. He allegedly arrived to find Knapp hosting a yard sale outside her residence, offering property removed from his parents' former mobile home.

Police say all of the stolen property was recovered, with Knapp admitting to the incident. She was arrested without incident and booked into the Sullivan County jail in Blountville.
