Virginia Tech running back arrested on assault, malicious wounding charges

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech running back Michael Holmes is being held without bail at Montgomery County Jail on two counts of simple assault and one count of malicious wounding, a spokesman at the jail confirmed today.

No further information was immediately available.

Malicious wounding is a Class 3 felony in Virginia. The charge would prompt an automatic suspension from the team for Holmes until the charges are resolved or dropped, per school policy. If found guilty of a felony, he would be kicked off the team.
