DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson pushed across four eighth-inning runs on four hits and an error and the Hatters went on to collect a 7-3 win over East Tennessee State in Atlantic Sun Conference baseball action Saturday at Melching Field.
The Stetson victory evened the series and brought the Bucs’ seven-game conference winning streak come to an end.
ETSU’s Will Chesney — who hadn’t allowed a run in 10 previous innings out of the bullpen — gave up all four hits, including Kevin Fagan’s bases-loaded two-RBI single for the go-ahead. The loss dropped the junior right-hander to 2-2.
Fagan went 2-for-5 on the day for the Hatters (18-22, 7-7).
Pat Mazeika, whose eighth-inning double scored two runs, and Garrett Russini had two hits apiece for Stetson.
Cameron Griffin (2-3) pitched a perfect inning in the eighth to collect the win.
Third baseman Alex Reynolds went 2-for-4 for ETSU (22-14, 11-6). Designated hitter Tyler Roach doubled, walked and scored two runs for the Bucs, one on a wild pitch.
Clinton Freeman had an RBI groundout for ETSU and Derek Niesman had an RBI bunt single.
The series at Melching Field wraps up Sunday at 1 p.m.
