KINGSPORT — Jose Leger will return as manager of the Kingsport Mets for a second straight season, joined by pitching coach Jonathan Hurst and hitting coach Yunir Garcia, the organization announced Thursday.
Before becoming the K-Mets manager last season, Leger managed the Dominican Summer League Mets for two seasons. He was the hitting coach for the Dominican Summer League Twins in 2009 after playing in the Minnesota Twins' minor league system from 2004-2008 as a catcher and infielder. He attended Georgia College State University.
Hurst will begin his fourth season as pitching coach with Kingsport, his eighth year as a pitching coach in the Mets organization. Hurst also pitched for the New York Mets in 1994, appearing in seven games.
Garcia will be back as the K-Mets' hitting coach for a second straight summer. It will be his sixth season as a coach in the Mets organization after previously serving as the hitting coach with the Gulf Coast Mets in 2011.
Kiyoshi Tada will return for his second year as the team's athletic trainer, and his third season overall with the organization. He spent 2011 with the Brooklyn Cyclones.
This will be Jay Jones' first season as the team's strength and conditioning coach, as well as his first year with the Mets organization.
The K-Mets are scheduled to play 68 Appalachian League games, including 34 at home from June through August. They will open at home with a three-game series against the Johnson City Cardinals on June 20-22.
