It's prom season in the Tri-Cities and, to mark the occasion, Sunday Stories is inviting readers to take a stroll down memory lane in our second annual Scrapbook Flashback: Prom Edition.
For this very special Sunday Scrapbook project, we're asking readers to share their old prom pictures. And we're not just talking about the posed picture of you and your date at the big dance. We'd love to have snapshots covering everything from the family photo shoots before the big event to decorations and dancing.
In keeping with our monthly Flashback guidelines, we're going to ask that you only send photos from 1993 and earlier. That mean's they have to be 20 years old or older. Of course, it is a Scrapbook Flashback so the older the pictures, the better.
Here's how to submit a picture(s). You can:
1) Simply scan and email it to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Just be sure that it's at least one megabyte and 200 dpi. Also, send it as an attachment to an email and not as a link to any outside site.
2) Mail or deliver it to: Kingsport Times-News, Attn: Carmen Musick, 701 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.
If you are unable to send digital images, we strongly recommend that you have copies of your photo made to submit. If you choose to send the original and want the photo returned after it has published, please be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope. You can also pick them up at the Times-News any (non-holiday) week day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. after they've published.
Old prom photos for Scrapbook Flashback must be received by April 19.
In addition to the photo, be sure to include your full name and a description of who's in the photo, when and where it was taken, and a way that we can contact you - just in case we have any questions.
So dust off those photo albums and dig out those old prom pictures. It's time for a Scrapbook Flashback!
The Scrapbook Flashback runs once a month, and always features photos that are at least 20 years old, all with a specific theme.
The rest of the month, Sunday Stories shares current reader photos and stories every week in Sunday Scrapbook. From school plays and sporting events to family gatherings and weekend getaways, we love seeing pictures of our readers and their families enjoying the simple pleasures of everyday life in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. We also love seeing pictures of your children and grandchildren, pets, church and civic club events, recreational activities and scenic shots of our beautiful region.
We also enjoy hearing your stories. Tell us about what's happening in your lives, or about special people or places. If you have a picture that helps illustrate your story, send that in too. We'll take the best stories received each week and showcase them in Sunday Scrapbook. The word count for weekly stories should not exceed 300 words. Periodically, we also accept longer stories from readers for our Share Your Story segment. If you have something that you'd like for us to consider, feel free to send it in. If writing is not your thing, but you'd like to suggest a story, send it to Sunday Stories' editor Carmen Musick at email@example.com.
