MACON, Ga. — The way Kerry Doane has been pitching, it was inevitable that he'd finally be recognized.
The East Tennessee State right-hander was named the Atlantic Sun Conference pitcher of the week on Monday after tossing 11 scoreless innings this past week in which he recorded his third shutout and his NCAA-leading seventh complete game of the year.
The senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., threw 152 pitches with 101 of them going for strikes. Doane lowered his season ERA from 2.22 to 1.96.
He is the active A-Sun career leader for complete games with eight, and his three shutouts are tied for the conference lead. He is one shutout away from tying Jeff Andrews (1978-81) for ETSU's single-season and career record.
Doane and the Bucs (21-12, 10-5) are gearing up for a busy stretch. They play 14 games in 19 days, beginning Wednesday night at The Citadel.comments powered by Disqus
