JONESBOROUGH — David Crockett not only gained a new boys basketball coach, it also got one of the top point guards in the region.
The school announced Monday that former Science Hill assistant John Good will take over the Pioneers’ program.
Good will bring his son, Patrick, along with him.
After the recent resignation of Sam Tarlton, Crockett set its sights squarely on hiring Good.
“We had some other pretty good applicants, but he was our No. 1 guy," said athletic director Josh Kite. “We were going after him with everything we had.”
Good played for George Pitts at Science Hill and later coached under him at King College. Good also was an assistant under Ken Cutlip and Mike Poe with the Hilltoppers.
Good will be formally introduced at a news conference Thursday at 3:10 p.m. at the school library.
Good said he’s not running into Crockett with a bunch of goals.
“My thoughts right now are no promises, no excuses,” he said. “I’ve scouted them, and I know their returning players. I’ve watched freshman and junior-varsity games. I just have to see more before I put a goal out there.”
