Runner-up finish in Southern Open not good enough for Church Hill's Mullins

April 8th, 2013 6:39 pm by George Thwaites

DANDRIDGE — Church Hill angler David Mullins’ second-place finish in this past weekend’s Bass Pro Shops Southern Open on Douglas Lake was good for a little more than $18,000.

Combined with the previous week’s fourth-place finish in the PAA ($7,500), Mullins should be able to afford the gas for his boat this season. Still, he had his sights set higher in the Southern Open.

“I didn’t work as hard as I did to finish second. I worked hard as I did because I wanted to to win it,” Mullins said. “We gave it a good run. We just came up a little short.”

Patrick Bone of Cleveland, Ga., won the Douglas event with a haul of   65.4 pounds. Mullins brought in 61.6 and third-place finisher David Kilgore landed 57.15.
