KPD warns of suspicious door-to-door sales activity

April 5th, 2013 5:05 pm by staff report

KINGSPORT -- The Kingsport Police Department sent out an alert Friday afternoon warning city residents to be cautious of any door-to-door salespeople they may encounter.

According to the KPD, it has received multiple calls recently regarding door-to-door sales activity taking place in the area.

A permit is required to conduct sales door-to-door, however, the KPD said there are currently no active permits allowing the sales to take place.

Kingsport police are asking residents to contact them concerning any suspicious persons or door-to-door sales conducted without proper identification or permits.

To report suspicious activity, contact the KPD Central Dispatch at (423) 246-9111 and provide officers with as much identifying information as possible regarding the individual in question, including their vehicle, clothing, physical description and license tag number.

Authorities said that information should only be obtained if it can be done so safely.
