Anders wins at Kingsport Speedway

March 30th, 2013 11:21 pm by staff report

KINGSPORT — The battle for real estate on the racetrack led to fighting in the pits during the final laps of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model feature at Kingsport Speedway on Friday night.

Through it all, Anthony Anders kept his head, and that earned him his second win of the season in the Model City.

Anders started the 60-lap race on the outside of the sixth row, but several incidents that occurred between the front-runners as the race unfolded shuffled him further toward the front.

By the time the green flag fell for a restart with 10 laps remaining, Anders found himself on the front row. He took the lead and survived one final restart on lap 53 to secure the win.

Daniel Pope, who was sent to the back of the field following an incident with Adam Long with 10 laps remaining, made a mad dash back toward the front to salvage a runner-up finish. Ryan Stiltner came home third while polesitter Zeke Shell finished fourth and Kres VanDyke rounded out the top five.

In other action, Nick Cole beat Rob Austin to the finish line by the narrowest of margins to win the 30-lap Street Stock feature. Cole got under Austin’s car on the final lap and won the drag race off  turn four to pick up his second win of the season.

Jared Broadbent, Allen Rich and Chris Tunnell completed the top five.

In the Pure 4 race, Jason Ketron edged John Ketron to record his second win of the season. Kenny Absher, Keith Helton and Dan Hall completed the top five.

With the Legends division taking a night off, the Mod 4 class took to the track and Rocky Yates scored the victory over runner-up Joshua Gobble.

Billy Byington won in Rookie Pure 4.
