Blotter: Sobriety checkpoint nets pantsless driver, pot

The blotter is derived from recent central dispatch records and incident reports of area police agencies.


Sullivan County Sheriff's Office


March 21


A Charter technician attempting to complete a disconnect order on Huffman Road was confronted by the resident, who had previously threatened to "hold hostage" any Charter vehicles that enter onto his property. When the employee drove away the resident allegedly followed at a high rate of speed and, according to the victim, appeared to be holding a pistol. The suspect eventually abandoned his pursuit, with police unable to locate him.


A county resident called police on a 9-year-old who "refused to come inside."


March 22


A motorist drove through a sobriety checkpoint on Highway 11W while wearing no pants. As police were questioning him on his lack of clothing they allegedly detected the odor of marijuana, then directed him to park along the shoulder and "put his pants on." A search would locate pot and a pill crusher, prompting the man's arrest on drug charges.


Police responded to Darnell Drive on a report of children "hitting each other with sticks and running with knives." They were not located.


Hawkins County Sheriff's Office


March 23


A Mooresburg man found nine bullet holes in the front of his dump truck. The victim named a suspect for police, saying they recently had a "disagreement" over a towed vehicle.


Kingsport Police Department


March 21


Police were called to Indian Path Medical Center after a woman took "a glass pipe from her shoe and placed it in the bio hazard container." She was also yelling and cursing, eventually admitting to police that she was on bath salts and therefore couldn't "keep her mouth shut." She was arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.


At the Kingsport Justice Center, which houses court and the city police department, a man urinated in the lobby. He then yelled profanity when confronted by a receptionist, was arrested and charged with vandalism and disorderly conduct.


March 24


Police were called to a Fort Henry Drive gas station after a man fell down an embankment and was stumbling around the parking lot. He was arrested for public intoxication, with pills found in his possession as he was being booked into jail.


March 25


On Kendricks Creek Road an officer located a juvenile "so highly intoxicated he could hardly stand." The child was released to his mother while his acquaintance, 20, allegedly consented to a search of his apartment. Inside police allegedly located three marijuana plants, several baggies and drug paraphernalia, prompting the resident's arrest.
