Milligan to host 5K to benefit Hands and Feet Project

MILLIGAN COLLEGE — A group of Milligan College students will host a 5K race on Saturday, April 13, to raise money for The Hands and Feet Project, an organization dedicated to helping Haitian children.

The race begins at 9 a.m. at Milligan’s Derthick Hall. Registration is available online at http://milligan.edu/handsandfeet. The registration fee is $15 before April 13 or $20 the day of the race.

The Hands and Feet Project, founded by Audio Adrenaline in 2004, cares for 100 orphaned and abandoned children in the southern region of Haiti. The organization is dedicated to helping the children by building homes and villages to care for them.

After learning about the organization during Christmas break, Milligan sophomore Alicen Simon felt called to help by planning a 5K at Milligan. She organized a team of students and faculty to plan the event.

“We are all waiting for the real world to do something, but as a college we can make a difference, and this is it,” Simon said.

Organizers hope the 5K will become an annual event at Milligan.

“Part of what brings power to our acts of service is commitment to the individuals we seek to serve,” said Katy Mosby, director of campus activities at Milligan. “Perhaps we will host 5K races for different organizations and causes next year, but there is long-term work to be done in Haiti. I would love to see our campus deepen our commitment and relationship with the struggles of the nation of Haiti.”
