Kingsport Schools hold registration for kindergarten, screening for pre-K

KINGSPORT — Kingsport City Schools will hold kindergarten registration for the 2013-2014 school year from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, at Kingsport City elementary schools.


Only children who are residents of Kingsport and who are 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2013, are eligible for kindergarten. Parents must accompany their children and register at the school zoned for their residence. If available, parents must bring an original birth certificate (not a mother’s copy), up-to-date Tennessee Immunization Card with confirmation of medical examination, child’s Social Security card and proof of residency (mortgage statement, rental receipt, property tax receipt or most recent water/electric/gas bill).


Children will not be allowed to attend school without providing this documentation. In addition, Kingsport City Schools will hold pre-kindergarten screening for the 2013-2014 school year from 8 to 11 a.m., and noon to 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, at the Kingsport Civic Auditorium, 1550 Fort Henry Drive, Kingsport.


Only children who are Kingsport residents and who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2013 are eligible for pre-kindergarten screening. Parents must accompany their children and bring an original birth certificate (not a mother’s copy), up-to-date Tennessee Immunization Card with confirmation of medical examination, child’s Social Security card and proof of residency (mortgage statement, rental receipt, property tax receipt or most recent water/electric/gas bill), proof of family income and the child to be screened.


Children will not be screened without providing this documentation. Pre-K classes are offered from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Classes follow the Kingsport City Schools calendar. Transportation is not provided.


Current pre-K locations (subject to change) are Palmer Center, Johnson Elementary and Lincoln Elementary.
