Group rallies against gun violence in Chattanooga

March 18th, 2013 9:57 am by Associated Press

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A rally aimed at quelling gun violence in Chattanooga grew out of frustration.

LaToyah Holloman said she's tired of waking up to the sound of gunshots. Holloman began a campaign called Stop the Violence, which held a rally Sunday night.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported the event at the East Lake Salvation Army headquarters was blocks from where a Chattanooga police officer was shot and wounded last week. There have been 20 shootings, including six homicides since Jan. 1 in the city.

One of the musicians who performed at the rally was Mike Kelly, known as Big Mike Mic. Kelly said people in some parts of town are just numbed by the violence around them.
