Association offer class on beginning beekeeping

The Clinch Valley Beekeepers Association will offer a short course and open house this week at the Treadway Fire Department, 189 Clinch Valley Road, Treadway, Tenn., in Hancock County.

The course will be offered Thursday, March 21. Mike Studer, Tennessee state apiarist, will speak at 7 p.m., about “Diseases and Pests in the Hive” and “What a New Beekeeper Needs to Know to Get Started.”

The open house will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, March 22. Several exhibits and information on beekeeping, along with door prizes and refreshments will be presented.

The Tennessee Beekeepers Association and the Clinch Valley Beekeepers Association will give away three hives to three new beekeepers. Some restrictions apply for qualifying. A package of bees will be raffled off Friday night.
