Man charged with burglary of Kingsport tattoo studio

Christian S. Newberry, 21, of 1856 Reedy Creek Road,Kingsport

A Kingsport man inked his ticket to jail on Tuesday after allegedly stealing $6,000 worth of tattoo designs from a city business.

A report of an individual attempting to sell a tote filled with tattoo flash reportedly led investigators to their suspect. Christian S. Newberry, 21, of 1856 Reedy Creek Road, was arrested and charged with burglary and felony theft.

According to Kingsport police records, on Tuesday evening officers were called to Ink Revolution Studios, 2309 Fort Henry Drive. The owner had arrived to find a lock removed and back door standing open.

He said a set of Craftsman tools were stolen in the burglary, along with approximately $6,000 worth of tattoo flash: the sheets of designs customers can leaf through to choose templates for their tattoos.

The victim had also allegedly received an anonymous call, alerting him to a suspicious man walking in the Highland area. The individual was reportedly "trying to sell' a large gray tote filled with tattoo flash.

The business owner told police that he was given an address on Reedy Creek Road for where the roadside salesman could be found, with officers then visiting the residence. A man identified as Newberry's father allegedly told investigators that he had seen his son carrying a large tote up to his room at approximately 8 a.m., but he was not currently home.

Police soon located Newberry in the parking lot of a nearby business on North Eastman Road. He reportedly was carrying a backpack that contained some of the tattoo flashing, then led investigators back to his home. Stowed away in his bedroom was reportedly the tote containing the rest of the tattoo designs.

Newberry was arrested and transported to the city jail, charged with burglary and theft of more than $1,000.
