Former security consultant accused of burgling former co-worker's home

AUSTIN SHANE JONES

CHURCH HILL — A former ADT Security Systems consultant was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly burglarizing the home of a former co-worker.

Police said the victim’s home wasn’t protected by an ADT security system.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Church Hill Police Department Detective Kevin Grigsby was dispatched to a burglary complaint at 403 E. Main Blvd., Apt. 2.

The victim, Jessie Hoskins, reportedly said that while she was at work someone had made entry to her apartment through a rear door and had taken several items of electronics.

A witness reportedly identified the alleged burglar as Austin Shane Jones, 18, 403 E. Main Blvd., Apt. 1.

CHPD Officer Chris Price transported Jones from the scene to the police department for an interview with Grigsby.

“(Jones) gave a statement confessing to being the person involved in the burglary and subsequent theft,” Grigsby said. “(Jones) also gave the location of the stolen items and Officer Price went to that location and recovered the victim’s property.”

During the interview, Jones also allegedly confessed to having stolen a GPS and an iPod that belonged to the victim several weeks before this incident.

Grigsby added, “(Jones) stated at that time he was a co-worker of the victim’s and that both parties were consultants for ADT Security Systems and that victim had given him a ride home from work. (Hoskins) stated that he had stolen the items from a company car that the victim was driving.”

The stolen items from the vehicle were valued in excess of $500.

Jones was charged with aggravated burglary, theft over $500 and theft under $500. As of Wednesday evening he remained held in the Hawkins County jail on $10,000 bond with arraignment set for Monday.
