Police say surveillance of a hotspot for Kingsport drug transactions has led to a felony arrest and the seizure of $1,600 in crack cocaine.
According to a police report, late Tuesday night the Kingsport Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit was monitoring the parking lot of a Stone Drive convenience store. KPD Det. Nathan Elliott says excessive foot traffic was observed to and from a particular vehicle, prompting an officer to walk to the car.
Through the window a man in the driver's seat was reportedly observed to have a white substance and baggie in his lap, making no attempt to be discreet in his actions. At the same time a passenger in the vehicle was allegedly handing the driver cash.
Kingsport police detained the men, then reportedly discovered a total of 8 grams of crack cocaine and small amount of marijuana in the car.
The man allegedly dealing the drugs, Dustin A. Hubmann, 25, of 1000 Delrose Drive, Kingsport, was arrested and charged with possession of more than a half gram of cocaine for resale and simple possession of marijuana.
Det. Elliott placed a street value on the seized cocaine at $1,600. He said $250 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug transactions, was also confiscated .
The alleged buyer inside of Hubmann's vehicle was arrested and charged with attempting to obtain a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
