Sullivan County heroin investigation nets arrest of NY man

Carlos Altiery, 33, of New York, N.Y.

A New York man allegedly transporting $30,000 worth of heroin into the area was intercepted and arrested last week at a Bristol, Tenn., bus station.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says that in November they began investigating reports of the drug being trafficked into Northeast Tennessee. Police efforts culminated last week when it was learned that Carlos Altiery, 33, of New York City, would be arriving at the Bristol Greyhound terminal with a large amount of heroin.

Sullivan County detectives were waiting on March 5 and confronted Altiery when he exited a bus. He reportedly cooperated with police and handed over a package that contained 900 separate bindles, or small folded envelopes, containing heroin. Police estimate the street value of the seized drugs at $30,000.

Detectives also allegedly found approximately 100 oxycodone pills and more than thirty alprazolam pills in Altiery’s pocket.

Altiery was arrested and charged with possession of schedule I drugs for resale within 1,000 feet of a park, possession of schedule II drugs for resale within 1,000 feet of a park and possession of schedule IV drugs for resale within 1,000 feet of a park.
