Sunday Stories is gearing up for Easter and we want our readers to join in the celebration.
In this month's Scrapbook Flashback, we are inviting readers to submit old photos that depict "Images of Easters Past."
In addition to being one of the most holy days in the calendar of Christian churches and solemnly religious, Easter also brings with it a wide range of joyful family traditions, especially for children. From sunrise services, passion plays and dinner on the ground, churches have long marked this most holy of days with special ceremonies. Often, people don new 'Easter outfits' and wear flowers to mark the occasion. Outside of church, children frolic and play in search of the Easter bunny or Easter eggs hidden for their enjoyment. Crafters take pleasure in creating the perfect Easter bonnet, while families endeavor to dye the perfect egg. Children, decked out in those new Easter outfits, pose with their Easter baskets for family photos.
In the weeks following Easter on March 31, we hope to see photos from all of your current celebrations.
Before that, however, we'd like to invite you to share "Images of Easters Past" in this month's Scrapbook Flashback.
Keep in mind that Scrapbook Flashback pictures have to be at least 20 years old. So, dig out those old photo albums and dust off your favorite pictures. There's no time to waste. The deadline for this month's Scrapbook Flashback is Friday, March 15. Selected photos will publish in the March 24 edition of Sunday Stories.
Don't have any old photos? Well, send current ones.
Sunday Stories shares current photos and stories from our readers every week in Sunday Scrapbook. There are basically two ways to participate:
Share your photos.
From school plays and sporting events to family gatherings and weekend getaways, we love seeing pictures of our readers and their families enjoying the simple pleasures of everyday life in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. We also love seeing pictures of your children and grandchildren, pets, church and civic club events, recreational activities and scenic shots of our beautiful region. For our Scrapbook Flashback editions, we request specifically-themed photos that are at least 20 years old.
Share your stories.
Tell us about what's happening in your lives, or about special people or places. If you have a picture that helps illustrate your story, send that in too. We'll take the best stories received each week and showcase them in our Sunday Stories' Sunday Scrapbook.
The word count for stories should not exceed 300 words. Make sure to include your name, as the person submitting it, and a phone number or email address where we can reach you just in case we have any questions. (Don't worry, though. We won't publish that part!)
Are you ready to get started? Well, then grab your camera - or even your iPhone - and take some photos. Then, simply email, mail or deliver them to us and we'll take care of the rest.
The photos should be sent in jpg format, and should be approximately 5 x 7 in size, resolution 200 dots per inch, or a total file size not less than 1 megabyte. Be sure to send the photos as attachments to an email, and not as a link to any outside site. If you are unable to send digital images, we strongly recommend that you have copies of your photo made to submit. If you choose to send the original and want the photo returned after it has published, please be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope. You can also pick them up at the Times-News any (non-holiday) week day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Make sure to include your name (as the person submitting it) and identify the folks in the picture, so that all your friends and family members will recognize them in the scrapbook. It's also helpful if you can let us know where and when the photo was taken.
Email your contributions (along with your name and address) to: email@example.com. Or mail them to: Sunday Scrapbook, Attn: Carmen Musick, Kingsport Times-News, 701 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.comments powered by Disqus
