Hale Springs Inn to host 'First Tuesday' art, music, food exhibits

March 3rd, 2013 9:57 pm by Jeff Bobo

ROGERSVILLE — The Hale Springs Inn will be adding art and music to the menu as part of a new program called “First Tuesday Art Openings” beginning this Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.

The Rogersville Heritage Association and The Rogersville Arts Council are joining the Hale Springs Inn in hopes of exposing the community to the work of local artists and musicians — and gourmet food.

The event will be held the first Tuesday of each month and includes free hors d’oeuvres prepared by in-house Chef Darrin Shelley, as well as live acoustic music performed by local musicians while visitors browse the featured artwork displayed in the inn.

The artists kicking off the event on Tuesday are Tata Andres and Bob Merrithew of Eidson whose show is titled, “Reflections in Wood, Glass, Line, and Color.”

Merrithew, a master stonemason from Maine, has lived in East Tennessee for more than 35 years.

He has 15 years of experience working with stained glass, and his woodcarvings are made from Appalachian wood harvested from Stoned Chapel Farm where he and Andres have their studio.

Andres, a native of Austria, traveled the world before settling in East Tennessee in 1989. She is a classically trained vocalist, master gardener, published poet, painter, photographer, and licensed massage therapist.

Horses and dahlias are the focus of Andres’ art and photos.

Merrithew and Andres display their work, together, at Meadowview Farmers Guild in Meadowview, Va.; and at their home gallery in Eidson.

Each featured artist’s work will remain on display and available for purchase for the rest of the month until the following month’s First Tuesday Art Opening.

“Hale Springs Inn is the ideal location for this monthly event, as it is frequented by diners and out-of-town guests,” said Hale Springs Inn general manager, Asher Henson. “By hosting these First Tuesday events, we hope to expose the rich talents of Rogersville that might not otherwise be seen. Keep an eye on the Hale Springs Inn’s Facebook page and website for each month’s featured artist.”
